Pottery is always the biggest category
at Indian Market, and this year's competition featured some stellar
works by many of the top artists. Dominique Toya won Best
of Class with a beautiful micaceous swirl vase.
This award is given to
the very best in pottery overall, beating out hundreds of other
entries for this coveted title.
Right behind Dominique
was our very own "White Swann" (Dollie Navasie)
with a Best of Division winner for Traditional Painted
Pottery.
Along with First Place
and Best of Division, White Swann was also the recipient of the
Helen Naha Memorial Award for Excellence in Hopi Pottery.
This is one of the finest examples of Hopi pottery I have ever
seen!
This incredible piece is
still available and is being offered through our gallery in behalf
of White Swann. Please be sure to inquire!
Other Blue Ribbon
winners in pottery include Autumn Borts, who received
First Place for both her entries, Lonnie Vigil, Lisa
Holt & Harlan Reano, Erik Fender, Russell Sanchez,
Marilyn Ray, and Preston Duwyenie among many others!
Loren Phillips took Best of Division with
a life-like White Bear in the contemporary kachina category.
Other notable entries included an elaborate Crow Mother by Arthur
Holmes Jr., and a one-of-a-kind Deer Dancer by Nuvadi
Dawahoya.
Hyrum Joe won Best of Division in
Representational Painting with a charming scene from an earlier
era on the Santa Fe plaza, after recently winning Best of Show
at the Prescott Art Invitational in Arizona with his realistic
impressionism works in oil.
Best of Show went to
Darryl & Rebecca Begay for a complex set of figurative
conchos.

We'd also like to congratulate
Jackie Bread for who received the Artists' Choice
award for exhibiting the most admirable talent among her peers.
This is a unique and meaningful award considering it is the only
bestowal by the artist community during SWAIA's Santa Fe Indian
Market.
This honor comes as no
surprise however, since Jackie recently won Best of Show
for a beadwork box at the annual Cherokee Art Market in
Tulsa, Oklahoma!
Jackie also took First
Place this year at Indian Market for Miscellaneous Art Objects.
