Emma Naha, a Hopi potter from
Polacca at the base of First Mesa, has been actively potting
since 1970. She is known for making small seed jars with Sikyatki
designs. This pot has been made in the traditional way, from
gathering, coiling, hand-forming and painting the clay to firing
outdoors.
Emma Naha is the widow of
well known Hopi artist Ray Naha.
She is also the mother of
Ray Jr., Shannon, and Marty Naha - all three of which have gone
on to become accomplished artists in their own right.
This canteen features a Palhik
Mana, or water maiden in bold polychrome fashion. It has great color and character.
The fire clouds are warm and inviting.
