Oil Originals: Hyrum Joe

Anyone who knows the artist will certainly recognize this portrait as one of his own. Clad in traditional Zuni attire, the singer greets the morning with a song and a prayer for good feelings - harmony and abundance. Dressed in his very best, the singer wears a purple velvet shirt, turquoise necklace, and wool trade blanket draped over his left shoulder. A red bandana circles his head while a red sash wraps around his waist. He synchronizes the beat of his drum to the rythms of the earth as he chants.

You can nearly feel the warmth of the morning light in a Southwest summer.

Although Hyrum might be recognized as the son of the internationally known alabaster sculptor and bronze artist, Oreland Joe, he has certainly proved that he can stand on his own two feet. Hyrum creates some of the most visually compelling and original works of art in oil that we've seen by anyone his age. He has won the SWAIA fellowship, as well as many other awards, including best of class at major art shows such as the Heard Museum Indian Market.

We are delighted to have this opportunity to show Hyrum's work, which can be seen in only a handful of the most prestigious galleries in Colorado and New Mexico. Because of our close, personal relationship, we were lucky enough to acquire these recent originals, and we look forward to bringing you more.
