Loretta Navasie
White Wedding
11" H
x 5 1/4" D
Loretta Navasie is the daughter
of the well-known Hopi potter, Joy Navasie - also known as Frogwoman.
Like her legendary forebear,
Loretta continues to produce the classic polychrome on white
clay slip vessels that have become a family trademark.
White ware pottery is a delicate
art requiring skillful hands. Once the pottery has been formed
and polished, a thin layer of white clay slip is applied to the
entire surface. Then the beautiful designs are painstakingly
laid down by hand. Any error requires the pottery to be entirely
washed clean of the white clay matte, and the artist must begin
again.
This jar exhibits all of the
classic traits, and would make the perfect addition to a growing
collection.
