Teec Nos Pos

"Teec Nos Pos, or Circle
of Cottonwoods, is located on the north side of the Carrizo Mountains,
near the four corners area. The weaving here displays strong
Persian influence - and has since the early 1900s.
"This is probably due
to photographs of such rugs being circulated among the weavers,
by traders, for design ideas. Perhaps a broader diversity of
materials is used in this weaving than anywhere else on the Reservation.
"Everything from handspun
natural wool colors to brightly colored commercial yarns are
combined in very intricately designed and, in general, very well
woven rugs. Even vegetal dyed wools are used to a limited extent,
with very pleasing results
"It is this broad diversity
of materials combined with the very intricate design work that
give the Teec Nos Pos such great appeal to collectors."
- from Ray Manley's Fine Art of Navajo
Weaving (22)
This weaving is a nice example
of a Teec Nos Pos in dramatic Ganado colors. The black background
has even been attributed to the Dinnebito area of the Navajo
Reservation where "midnight" rugs are popular.
This size and style has good
eye appeal and provides good coverage. This particular color
combination is neutral enough to work with just about any interior
design scheme.
Our rug selection ranges from
heavy-duty rugs that work well on the floor to table runners,
and from wall hangings to fine tapestries. We try to hand-pick
the best rugs at the best possible value. We believe this particular
piece fits nicely into such a category.
