Tse-Pe learned pottery making
from his mother Rose Gonzales, but it was his work with Popovi
and Tony Da that most influenced his contemporary style. He introduced
green clay slips used today by Russell Sanchez among others.
Tse-Pe was certainly an innovator
for his time, and was featured in 1976 in the pivotal book, "7
Families in Pueblo Pottery".
Rose taught her son Tse-Pe
to make pottery along with his wife Dora and their daughter Irene.
Rose and Tse-Pe sometimes worked together, especially when creating
pottery in duotones (two shades of the same color). While Tse-Pe
also carves pottery he prefers sgraffito, which is carving designs
in low relief.
