"The Proud War God Kachina
represents the spirit of Pöökanghoya as he would appear
in his best finery. There seem to be several types of Pöökang
Kachinas, this being simply the dressiest one.
He often appears in the Mixed
Kachina Dances but may also appear in evening dances in the kivas.
He is one of the so-called Fighting Kachinas. The statement in
Colton (Colton: 1959:62) that this kachina has 'warrior tracks'
on his chest did not refer o bare feet. It refers to the double
lines that are apparent on the kachina's arms - these are puukongkuku
or warrior tracks."
