"The name of this kachina
comes from the Hopi words for a man's hair know or queue (nasompi)
and hungry; he is the "hair hungry" kachina. He races
with a pair of sheep shears, scissors, or a knife in one hand.
Upon overtaking the challenger,
he will fling him to the ground and cut off his hair knot or
snip off only a token lock as he sees fit. This kachina is one
of the few runners who appears consistently in elaborate clothing
on all three mesas."
